Original painting by contemporary artist Max Maslansky, whose work explores identity, intimacy, transformation, and the psychological space between figuration and abstraction.

This 18 × 24 inch composition on a pillow slip presents four spectral female figures suspended within a hazy, dreamlike environment rendered in layered blues, lavenders, pinks, and soft neutrals. The painting balances delicacy and tension through blurred forms, surreal anatomical distortions, and floating symbolic elements that create an atmosphere both playful and emotionally charged.

Maslansky’s distinctive visual language merges contemporary figurative painting with psychedelic color fields and symbolic abstraction, resulting in a work that feels simultaneously intimate, theatrical, and psychologically open-ended.

The softened edges and translucent layering give the composition an ethereal quality, while the direct frontal arrangement of the figures creates a strong visual presence suited to contemporary interiors and curated collections alike.

Dimension: 18" W x 24" H

Condition: Excellent. Very minimal signs of age or handling. Acquired from private collection.

Max Maslansky is a Los Angeles–based contemporary painter known for dreamlike figurative works that blur intimacy, sexuality, humor, and psychological unease. Born in 1976 in Los Angeles, Maslansky studied at Bard College, the Glasgow School of Art, and later earned an MFA from California Institute of the Arts.

His paintings often use washed, stain-like techniques on unconventional materials such as bedsheets and pillowcases, creating soft-focus images that feel simultaneously seductive and unsettling. Much of his imagery draws from found internet culture, vintage pornography, and performative self-image, which he transforms into emotionally ambiguous, surreal compositions.

Maslansky has exhibited at venues including the Hammer Museum as part of Made in L.A., as well as galleries such as Honor Fraser, Dutton, Five Car Garage, and Galerie Lefebvre & Fils in Paris and Geneva. His work is included in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)
