A striking and psychologically charged composition, this 2012 work on paper by Alex Becerra captures the artist’s raw, expressive approach to figuration and space. Rendered in loose, gestural brushwork, the painting depicts a nude female figure enclosed within a cage-like architectural structure, creating a palpable tension between vulnerability, performance, and confinement.

Becerra’s painterly handling—thick strokes, exposed mark-making, and an intentionally rough-edged composition—reflects the immediacy and emotional intensity that characterize his practice. The contrast between the cool interior tones and the earthy rust-colored border heightens the work’s theatrical presence, while the fragmented perspective and distorted geometry lend the image an almost dreamlike instability.

Executed on paper and presented in a simple natural wood frame, the piece exemplifies Becerra’s ability to merge contemporary figuration with an uncompromising, visceral energy. Both provocative and deeply human, the work stands as a compelling example of the artist’s early 2010s output.
