Alex Chaves — Painting on Canvas
Signed and dated verso.
A striking contemporary portrait by artist Alex Chaves, this 2014 work blends abstraction and figuration through bold color blocking, expressive brushwork, and an intentionally distorted profile. Rendered in vivid tones of mint green, pink, yellow, and deep blue-black, the composition balances softness and tension, creating a psychologically charged yet playful presence.
The subject’s elongated facial structure and simplified forms evoke influences from modernist portraiture while maintaining a distinctly contemporary voice.
Both graphic and intimate, this painting functions equally well as a statement piece in a modern interior or as part of a contemporary art collection focused on portraiture, identity, and expressive color.
Condition: Excellent. Very minimal signs of age or handling.
