Ellen De Meutter — Mixed Media on Canvas
Signed and dated in verso.
Dark, branching forms cross a textured grey ground, holding scattered shapes and fragments of lettering. Muted greens, a small red accent, and a band of blue interrupt the subdued palette, lending the composition a quiet, unsettled energy. Working in acrylic, ink and oil, the artist creates a scene suspended between a recognizable landscape and abstraction.
This work is from her solo show at Roberts Projects, Secrets and Lies November 17, 2007 – February 2, 2008.
Condition: Excellent; Very minimal signs of age or handling.
Provenance: Roberts Projects. Private collection.
Ellen De Meutter (b. 1981) is a Belgian painter whose work draws on memory and the imagery of everyday life. Combining figurative forms, abstract shapes and fragments of text, she creates worlds that feel both familiar and strange. Expressive brushwork and unexpected colour lend her paintings a playful yet quietly unsettling atmosphere.
