This one-of-a-kind object is made from the center “eye” of a California redwood tree destroyed during the 2024 wildfires near Bakersfield. The box was shaped from the core of a cross section of the burned trunk, preserving the natural growth rings formed over decades. A fragment of the original charred wood accompanies the piece, connecting the finished object to its source.
The wood is finished with a traditional mixture of natural beeswax and orange oil, allowing the redwood’s color and grain to remain completely natural. No stain or artificial color has been added.
The solid brass knob is made from recycled brass, adding warmth and contrast to the sculptural form while adding to the makers sustainability practice. The inside of the interior is lined in suede.
Ideal for jewelry, keepsakes, or small personal items. Each piece made from this material will be completely unique.
